U.S. Embassy Mbabane and YALI Network members spent July 18 – Mandela Day – at the Nhlangano American Corner, mentoring over 70 students from Nhlangano Central High School. They used free, online YALI Learns resources to discuss personal development strategies. These topics included public speaking, ethics and networking. The Fellows and the Embassy Public Affairs Section also donated more than 300 books to the Nhlangano Library children’s section. Ms. Jabu Hlophe, Director of Libraries, was especially grateful for the new book collections. Promoting education and service epitomizes what Nelson Mandela stood for. Mandela Day is an annual international day in honor of Nelson Mandela, celebrated each year on his birthday to highlight volunteerism, community service, and servant leadership as key aspects of leadership development. Across the continent, YALI alumni honored his legacy by serving in their communities.
