On March 11, women from Swaziland and beyond gathered for the Vital Voices Global Mentoring Walk through the Pine Valley neighborhood of Mbabane. Taking place in 62 countries around the world, thousands of women took part in the walk to com-memorate International Women’s Day. “The goal,” says Aurelice Kunene of the Vital Voices organizing committee, “ is to identify, invest in and bring visibility to extraordinary women by releasing their leadership potential to transform lives and accelerate peace and prosperity in their communities.”
The walk began with an inspiring, motivational speech from U.S. Ambassador to Swaziland, Lisa Peterson.
“For me, the walk was exciting, inspiring and mentally equipping,” says Lungelo Motsa, of the facilities department. “At first, I was excited to join a group of young women with the same vision of a successful future coming together. Within the two hours, I saw friendships blossom, participants exchanging details to stay in touch, and I think everybody left the venue in-spired. It showed that by investing in a few young women’s leadership, you can impact many—we should do more!”
