Swazi Scholars Off to America

Two Swazis recently departed for the United States as Fulbright Fellows. They will spend up to 2 years in the United States seeking to improve their professional skills to contribute positively to Swaziland’s development upon their return. This year’s awardees are:

Dr. Bongiwe Prudence Malinga, a Senior Medical Officer at Mankayane Government Hospital. She will be studying towards a Master’s Degree in Public Health at the University of Kentucky. Dr. Malinga says she cannot wait to begin her academic journey because she enjoys traveling, exchanging values with other cultures, enjoying different cuisines and music. Dr. Malinga says her future goal in life is to contribute to the health and well-being of disadvantaged societies.

Linda Shiba, a Finance Officer at the Ministry of Finance, Budget and Economic Affairs Department. He will pursue a Master’s Degree in Financial Economics at Ohio University.Linda is also a co-Director of Imitsanyelo We Fashion Front (IWFF,) a non-profit organization he founded known as Asijabule Foundation. The organization’s mandate is to empower the youth to be drivers of change in combining their skills, talents and interests through the practice of philanthropy. It does this through helping the youth tap into their passions and then use these passions for social transformation through art, environmental consciousness, and education.

The Embassy recruits yearly for these very competitive fellowships. The next recruitment cycle will begin in December.
