On October 11, the US Embassy collaborated with U.S. Peace Corps Swaziland to celebrate the International Day of the Girl Child at Manyeveni Nazarene Primary School, where Dawnita Brown, a Peace Corps Volunteer (G14) hosted the first ever “Swazi Girls Believe Conference.” Ambassador Lisa Peterson, Peace Corps Country Director Glenda Green, and Public Affairs Officer Joia Starks all showed up to support these young women. Girls between the ages of 10 to 15 years heard from a panel of Swazi women who have achieved success in their professions and learned about sexual reproductive health and building self-confidence from Ms. Nonhlanhla Dlamini, a local nurse. Empowering girls is about giving them the right information to make smart choices – kudos to Dawnita for organizing a celebration of the Girl Child!
