Location: Throughout Eswatini
Event: The government of Eswatini has announced a nationwide curfew from 1800 – 0500 effective immediately. Civil unrest continues in Eswatini, including the burning and looting of stores, cars and businesses. All flights out of KMIII International Airport are suspended until further notice. Embassy staff have been directed to remain home.
Internet service is expected to degrade as Internet Service Providers have been told to shut down. Cell phone service is still available but data services (WhatsApp) will be spotty, if existent at all.
The U.S. Embassy will remain closed through Wednesday, June 30. U.S. citizens needing emergency services should call the Consular Section using the contact information below.
Actions to Take:
- Expect communication disruptions; contact family and friends to let them know you are safe.
- If safe, stock up on groceries and water and then stay home
- Avoid driving and avoid major roads due to burning materials and debris being thrown at vehicles.
