Promoting human rights, especially gender equality, is an important role of the U.S. government, and today we highlight Makhosazana Mkhonta, a Swazi champion for gender equality and women’s empowerment. She will be participating in the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP), a 3-week professional development exchange in the United States. MaKhosazana Mkhonta is a Business Development Officer at Swaziland Fair Trade. Previously she has volunteered her time at Swaziland Young Women’s Network (SYWON), a non-governmental organization that focuses on women’s rights issues. In the U.S., she will represent Swaziland during her exchange program focused on the role of NGOs in promoting women’s issues.
